Being a new mom can be a lot of work. It can also be overwhelming at times but one thing you shouldn’t stress about are the product must haves that can make being a new mom a whole lot easier.
I surveyed 6 mommies (including myself) who shared their top must have products from their own mommy experiences. Below you will find these great products!

1. Rock n Play Sleeper/ Co-Sleeper
A rock n play sleeper was a life saver for me the second time around. I found it to be the perfect place for baby to sleep or nap. It rounds up to provide them the feeling of being cuddled. We had a bassinet but baby just seemed to get lost in it because there was too much room. The rock n play sleeper provided her with the comfort she needed.
A Co-sleeper or bassinet is another great option for new baby. Providing them the comfort and protection they need while giving you the easy access during night feedings that you need.
Both of these items can be found on Amazon (online shopping is soooo much easier when you’re a busy mom). The Fisher Price Rock n Play Sleepers range anywhere from $40-$140 (I bought the $40 one and it was perfect!)
2. Swaddling Blankets
For the first few months of baby’s life, swaddling will be a life saver for you. Babies tend to feel comforted wrapped tightly and warm. It helps to simulate the womb they lived in and became comfortable and familiar with.
Swaddling blankets can be fairly inexpensive and can be found at about any store. Amazon has a wide selection of swaddling blankets. Most can be found in packages ranging from 3-7, prices varying from $12-$20
3. Diapers, Wipes & Diaper Cream
Having a stock pile of diapers and wipes prior to baby arriving is a great idea. Buying a little each month can help with the cost. But how do you know what sizes to buy? You may be asking yourself this very question.
Starting out with at least 1 box of newborns, 2 boxes of 1’s, and 2 boxes of 2’s can be a good start. Keep in mind that most places like Wal-mart will allow you to exchange unopened packages of diapers for the size that you need.
You can always find coupons and sales for diapers and wipes too so when you see a great sale, buy, buy, buy!
Now, knowing what brand to buy will depend on your baby. Some babies may have sensitive skin and you may find that only a particular brand works best for your baby. This will be a simple trial and error experiment. (Both of my babies needed Huggie brand diapers, I preferred pampers wipes, and desitin diaper cream).
A swing can be used for multiple purposes. Baby can take naps, play, and even observe in a swing. It is also a helpful tool for when you need to get something done around the house and baby can be in the same room with you while you do work.
Swings range in price and style. Fisher price has a great selection of swings averaging $100
5. Breathing Monitor
This is one of the best products for a mommy’s piece of mind. The one thing that you will never stop doing is running in to check and make sure your child is still breathing. Let’s face it, they’ve been “napping too long” something must be wrong, right?! Well, now you don’t have to worry!
Owlet has come out with a baby monitor that tracks your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels and will also notify you should something be wrong!

6. Diaper Pails
Easy clean up, less stink. A diaper pail is a must have tool to make your life just a little easier.
I don’t know if a particular diaper pail is better than another (I had the playtex diaper genie and it worked great!)
Items range from $20-$80
7. Rocking Chair
Life saver for those sleepless nights. A rocking chair of any kind (preferably comfortable) helps with the late night feedings and soothing a sleepless baby back to dream land.
Rocking chairs can be bought at any store and can range anywhere from $90-$400
8. Diaper Bag/Purse Combo
The less you have to carry the better! My first go around as a new mom, I had my purse and the diaper bag. Carrying around two bags while carrying around a baby or a baby in a carseat is a lot of work.
For my second babe I bought a Coach diaper bag. It had a changing pad, a million little pockets and compartments for bottles and toddler cups, a big center space that held diapers and wipes plus I could keep my wallet, phone and other important necessities. I spent the extra money but it was well worth it. I definitely got my money worth because I used it for almost 5 years transferring it from a “diaper bag” to a “toddler bag” keeping extra clothes, snacks, and toddler cups in it!
My husband just used a small black diaper bag that we had from our previous child which worked out nicely for him.
You can spend as little as $25 to as much as $400 depending on what you are looking for in-regards to style and brand.
Perfect for nursing or bottle fed babies!
These pillows give the support and assistance you need while feeding your baby. It’s helpful for breastfeeding because it props your baby up just right while they feed.
If you’re not breastfeeding, no worries! It’s still helpful for helping prop your baby on your lap while you feed them by bottle. It’s also super useful for supporting babies while they learn how to sit and make lounging comfortable as well.
A Boppy pillow averages about $39 on Amazon
10. A Good Breast Pump
If you plan on breast feeding, spending a little extra for a good breast pump makes breast feeding a little less of a hassle. You will spend what feels like and can sometimes be about 95% of your time either feeding or pumping for your baby. It’s so important to have a reliable and functional breast pump.
My first go around I spent under $100 on my first breast pump. It didn’t have great suction or pull so I felt like I had to pump forrrrever to get anything out. My supply was never great to begin with (which was frustrating in itself). This breast pump didn’t help. By the time my babe was 6 months I was done breast feeding (many other factors went into this, including going back to work and not having adequate time to pump).
With my second babe, I decided to do some leg work and find a better breast pump. I decided on the Medela Freestyle Mobile Double Electric Breast Pump. It was the best decision I made and the money was well worth it. The suction and pull was a lot stronger, I could pump both breast at the same time (buy a bra holder that holds the suctions in place so you don’t have to hold them) and I was producing more milk in less time! I was able to breastfeed my second babe for over 12 months! The Medela pump made a huge difference in my breastfeeding experience!
The Medela brand has a couple different options to choose from. The one I chose and loved was the:
Medela Freestyle Mobile Double Electric Breast Pump, Hands Free Breast Pump, Digital Display with Memory Button, Rechargeable Battery, and Lightweight $324.99 on Amazon (link below)
